Do you have a tree on your property that you've been warned is going to topple at any time? Are you reluctant to pay the cost of having it cut down and are thinking of doing everything yourself? While it's theoretically possible for the average person to cut down a tree, that doesn't make it a good idea. There are a number of reasons why you should leave the work to tree removal services instead of tackling the issue yourself. A few of the biggest reasons include:

1. Safety

It's hard enough to dismantle a relatively healthy and stable tree. When you have a decaying tree that is starting to get unstable, there are even more issues to deal with. The tree removal professionals will likely have to brace the entire tree to keep it from falling, rather than only having to worry about the section that's actively being cut away. If you attempt the same thing without proper support, the whole tree could fall over or part of the tree could practically disintegrate without warning. When you have professionals dealing with the situation, you won't have to worry about injuring yourself or causing damage to the surrounding area.

2. Cost

You can mitigate some of the safety issues by obtaining more safety equipment but this is a case where diminishing returns are evident. In order to be as safe as possible, you'd need all the same equipment would be used by the tree removal services. Getting a saw or straps might not be too expensive but then you probably need a cherry picker or some other type of articulated lift. By the time you add up everything, the cost will be close to or possibly even more than if you'd simply hired the professionals in the first place. Instead of wasting money in this way, it makes sense to just get the professionals to do things in the first place.

3. Speed

The more dangerous a task is and the less familiar you are with that task the slower you need to go in order to not get hurt. In order to avoid something catastrophic happening, you'd need to take your time when dismantling the tree. Instead of the hours it might take for professional tree removal services to complete the job, you might still be working on cutting down the tree days or even weeks later. Your time is at least as valuable as your money; even if you do manage to save a little money by trying to do things yourself, you probably have better things to do than potentially getting hurt while removing a tree. Leave the situation to the professionals.
